Paul Mitchell, um cabeleireiro escocês, era apaixonado por seu trabalho. Ele adorava estar no pódio.

Combinar as forças

- Apoio a várias organizações: Pink Ribbon, Waterkeeper Alliance, Feed The Children (África), Mineseeker, Mirador Basin (América Central), Everyman (Cancer Institute).

Hair developer

Hair Coloring Process

The Steps to Color Your Hair

What products to use for coloring?
To achieve hair coloring, two complementary ingredients are essential:
•    1 tube of hair dye
•    1 tube of developer and/or a tube of hair color activator

Equipment:
•    Pair of gloves
•    Coloring bowl (for mixing)
•    Brush for applying color.

When to Use the Developer?

The developer is a color fixative that penetrates the hair fiber to implant color pigments and make them last over time.
The main developer volumes used are "10vol" and "20vol" for lightening by one to two shades. In general, the developer is used for permanent hair coloring as part of covering gray hair.
From “30vol,” lightening operations can be performed. This type of developer is mainly used to achieve quite light or even very light blonde shades.
The activator, on the other hand, will be used mainly to create so-called "semi-permanent" or "tone-on-tone" colors, i.e., temporary colors that last about 3 to 4 weeks. As the name suggests, it helps reveal the natural hair color, providing highlights and shine.
The presence of developer is lower than in permanent color and does not contain ammonia.

What dosage to apply?
Depending on the developer/activator and the color dose, it is necessary to respect the dosage indicated on the hair dye tube.

For example, there are various dosages:
•    1 dose of color + 1 and a half doses of developer
•    1 dose of color + 1 dose of developer
•    1 dose of color + 2 doses of developer.
The last one is usually indicated as 1:1. The first number is the amount of color, while the second number refers to the amount of developer/activator to be used.
In the bowl, take care to combine the developer/activator and the dye to get the most homogeneous mixture possible.

What is the exposure time?
•    For applying the dye, we recommend first taking a fine-tooth comb and dividing the hair into 4 equal parts.
•    Use clips and clamps to hold them.
•    Hold one of these parts in your hands and divide it into two or three sub-parts. Apply the color starting from the tips of the hair and then move forward to the roots.
•    Leave it on for 30-35 minutes for permanent color (with developer) and approximately 25 minutes for "tone-on-tone" color (with activator). You should check the exposure time indicated on the hair dye tube.
How to rinse and wash hair after color breakage?
•    Rinse the hair for 2 to 3 minutes to release the color.
•    When the water is clear, use a post-color shampoo to help set the color.
•    If your hair is dry and/or sensitized, we recommend applying a nourishing conditioner.

How to Remove Hair Dye Stains?

To remove color stains from the skin, forget alcohol or makeup remover and opt for a specific stain remover. Using a cotton ball, remove stains from the scalp or ears.

How to Prolong Color Shine?
For each hair type, its beauty treatment ritual extends the life of your hair color.

For fine hair
Use a mild, silicone-free shampoo to add softness and shine to your hair.
Shampoos for oily hair are often very aggressive and contain a lot of silicone.
Alternate once a week with a color-boosting shampoo to extend color intensity.

For dry hair
Choose a nourishing shampoo once a week and alternate with a shampoo for colored hair enriched with moisturizing agents.
As a treatment, we recommend doing an oil mask once a week and always using a heat protection treatment in the form of oil or cream to protect the hair from thermal shocks.

Safely Dyeing Your Hair

To change your hair's shade, lighten its color, adopt a bold style, or cover gray hair, many women use home hair coloring products. Easy to use, they need to follow some usage rules to enjoy them safely.

Types of Hair Dyes According to Purpose

There are three types of hair dyes, distinguished by their coloring power and the resistance of the obtained color:

  1. Oxidation coloring or permanent coloring: The coloring product is combined with hydrogen peroxide and may contain ammonia. The "tone on tone" version contains less hydrogen peroxide and often does not contain ammonia.
  2. Direct coloring or semi-permanent coloring: The dye is combined with a cosmetic product like shampoo, mousse, etc. The color fades after 4 to 8 shampoos.
  3. Temporary coloring: The dye is combined with a cosmetic product like lotion, mousse, etc. The coloring is superficial and is removed with the first shampoo.

Other, much older techniques include:

  1. Vegetal dye: Mostly henna powder or other plant-based dye, sometimes combined with oxidation dyes or metals.
  2. Metal salt-based coloring: Based on bismuth, iron, copper, or aluminum. This type of coloring is not very common in Europe.

You can find on the European Commission's website the list of chemicals that should not be used in the composition of hair dyes.

Risks of Hair Coloring

Hair dyes are chemical products developed for hair. There is a risk of irritation upon contact with the skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.

  • Splashes in the eyes: Since hair coloring is done close to the eyes, splashes are possible. Rinse thoroughly with warm water for at least 10 minutes while lifting the eyelid to avoid the risk of corneal irritation. If discomfort persists for more than 30 minutes, consult an ophthalmologist.
  • Skin staining: This risk is more aesthetic than for health. To avoid staining your hands during the process, use gloves. Most of the time, they are provided in the hair dye package.
  • Contact dermatitis: Some sensitive individuals may react to contact with an oxidizing color. Test before dyeing to prevent any allergic reaction.

Precautions for Safely Dyeing Hair

Read the instructions carefully before applying your color and follow the instructions: product preparation, application method, exposure time, rinsing.

  • Do not apply the dye if the scalp is irritated or has dandruff. You may feel a burning or tingling sensation.
  • Before using a product for the first time, test it (for example, on the wrist) 2 or 3 days before applying the dye. This time will allow you to anticipate any allergic reaction.
  • Respect the indicated application time and rinse your hair thoroughly after the specified time.
  • If you feel burning or itching during coloring, rinse your hair immediately.
  • Do not attempt to color anything other than hair (lashes, eyebrows, etc.) with a hair coloring product or make a temporary tattoo on the skin.
  • Keep your coloring products out of the reach of children.
  • Do not mix products with each other or with other substances.
  • Use the gloves provided with the product.
  • In case of product splashes or spills, use a sponge and rinse abundantly with water.
  • Never use oxidation dye after dyeing with metallic salts, as there is a risk of an exothermic reaction (strong heat release) that can damage the hair.
  • Keep the packaging for 1 month. The information contained here is useful in case of an allergic reaction.

Tips for Maintaining the Health, Shine, and Life of Your Hair

1. Hair Care Basics:

Start with regular washing, cutting, and hydration. Choose products tailored to your hair type – be it dry, brittle, or color-treated. Understanding your hair type is crucial for effective treatment.

2. Hydrating Mask:

After washing at least twice a week, apply a hydrating mask to restore moisture. Adjust frequency based on your hair's needs, reducing to once a week after achieving optimal hydration.

3. Gentle Detangling:

Avoid detangling wet hair to prevent breakage. Use a wide-tooth comb to gently work through tangles.

4. Heat Protection:

Apply a generous amount of heat protectant spray before drying your hair with a dryer. Keep the dryer 25/30 cm away and use it daily without causing damage.

5. Styling Products:

Choose styling products that suit your desired look. Additional support is essential for achieving your styling goals.
