Jean Paul Gaultier - O estilista

Women's Fragrances

Perfumes for women: See the olfactory families to match your style!
Discover the four olfactory families specific to women's perfumes. Taking into account the diversity of perfumes on the market, classifications were established in order to group them into different olfactory families. An early version of this perfumed record appeared in the 1900s. It has evolved somewhat and now includes the eight main families. Four of them are more specifically dedicated to women's perfumes.

Perfumes for women chyprus

The chypre perfume family is based on woody, floral and fruity accords. They are rich and generally very persistent compositions. This category appeared in 1917 and perfectly embodies the fiery and determined temperament of the woman who wears it.
The floral chypre fragrance: Floral chypre contains spices and balms accompanied by floral notes such as rose, jasmine or lily of the valley.
The fruity chypre fragrance: Cyprus and fruity juices, in turn, are sweeter and richer. They are based on fruity and warm flavors such as peach and exotic plum fruits.

Feminine citruses in perfumery

All feminine citrus scents are mainly composed of citrus fruits such as bergamot, lemon, orange, grapefruit or tangerine. Other brighter Mediterranean flowers can be incorporated. Citrus juices are always synonymous with freshness and lightness.
Aromatic citruses: The citrus and aromatic essences have an undeniable freshness that seems to come straight from the Mediterranean. They are enriched with aromatics such as thyme, rosemary or tarragon.

Floral fragrances for women

Floral fragrances are undoubtedly the most common in the women's fragrance category. They launch green, poetic and romantic notes, to which fruity or spicy flavors can be added. This is the ideal category to show romanticism, charm and femininity.
Floral aldehyde: Floral aldehyde refers to all floral juices accompanied by animal and powdery flavors. They are unmissable to seduce and reveal your sensuality in broad daylight.
Aquatic floral: Floral and aquatic aromas, however, focus more on freshness. Its traditional bouquet is reinforced by the presence of more maritime notes.
Floral carnation: Carnation is a plant that has the particularity of being slightly peppery. So, when you are invited to make floral arrangements, it gives them more dynamism and enthusiasm. The result is rich and deeply harmonious perfumes.
Fruity floral: floral and fruity compositions have enchanted women since the end of the 20th century. As the name suggests, they bring together a bouquet of flowers and fruit flavors such as apricot, raspberry, lychee or red fruits.
Green floral: certain floral scents highlight a more vegetal aroma. Its freshness is more pronounced and exudes a particular feeling of spring. They evoke the scent of freshly cut grass, delicately sprinkled with morning dew.
Floral jasmine: Jasmine is a true star of women's perfumery. It exudes a noble and refined opulence and gives the perfumes that contain it a more complex and elegant structure.
Floral lily of the valley: lily of the valley and its famous May bells are often included in women's perfumes. This timeless white flower brings a fresh, spring flavor.
Floral Orange Tuberose: Tuberose and orange blossom are plants that were introduced in the mid-20th century in perfumes. They reinforce the originality and sensuality of the recipe.
Pink violet floral: Finally, rose and violet form a particularly popular pair, highly praised by Yves Saint-Laurent. It's a romantic and timeless mix.

Oriental feminine essences

Oriental perfumes are also called amber fragrances. These are essences that stand out for their warmth and sensuality. They are very seductive and contain vanilla, precious woods, flowers and spices. The emphasis is on exoticism.
Oriental floral: oriental and floral juices are exotic, spicy and seductive at the same time. They take us to the most sensual places.
Oriental Spices: Oriental and spicy aromas, on the other hand, are designed for women who do not lack character. They contain spices such as cinnamon, cloves or nutmeg and have a typical oriental aroma.
Oriental Vanilla: Vanilla is also one of the main ingredients in women's perfumery. Reveals a totally irresistible and addictive amber flavor.
Oriental Woody: Finally, oriental and woody juices are undoubtedly the hottest. They are based on rich and complex recipes containing amber, sandalwood or cedar.

Specific notes for women's perfumes

If it sometimes happens that certain creators mix genders to design mixed and androgynous perfumes, it is necessary to recognize that, in most cases, women's perfumes are very different from men's. This is explained very simply: there are certain ingredients that are specificfor women's perfumes.

Women's perfumes that contain notes of rose

All perfumers agree that rose is an essential ingredient in women's perfumery. Present since ancient times in women's fragrances, it has a huge variety of different flavors, which can be seductive, spicy, light, fresh, fruity or romantic at the same time.

Women's fragrances that contain patchouli

Patchouli is a typical hippie wood. If you are nostalgic for the 70s, this is the ingredient for you! Furthermore, patchouli has the property of giving character and content to perfumes that contain it.

Notes of sage at the heart of women's perfumes

Sage is a typical Mediterranean ingredient. It is an aromatic widely used in women's perfumery, leaving an herbaceous and slightly camphoric smell. Sage is very useful in adding tone to the fragrance.

White musk, essential in women's fragrances

White musk is a small synthetic ingredient that feels clean and light. It is a soft, enveloping and affectionate component. It leaves a particularly comforting and calming sensation in women's perfumes.

Jasmine is widely used in women's perfumes

Finally, the rival and lifelong accomplice of rose, jasmine and another ingredient most used in perfumes for women. Originating from India and Egypt, it is the signature of prestigious essences and reveals an opulent flavor, at the same time powdery, floral and fruity.

Match your dress style with your perfume

Make your clothing style match the perfume. If the perfume must be in harmony with the personality of the woman who wears it, it must also be correlated with the style of dress. Furthermore, these two elements often go hand in hand. It's rare to see a businesswoman with a very careerist spirit dressed in an everyday tracksuit.

Harmonize her fragrance with your clothes and your personality

What perfume for a woman with a classic style?
If you are more of a discreet and feminine style and embody British excellence, choose fresh, green and spicy notes. They are light and discreet, devoid of any eccentricity.

Choosing a bling-bling perfume for women
Is it quite showy? In that case, don't be afraid to be noticed with your perfume too. Choose perfumes with a spirit that is both spicy and floral. Opt for Mediterranean mats that are not cold.

The fragrances that athletes love
If your tracksuit is your best friend, you'll need a perfume ready to accompany you on every sporting challenge. Orient yourself towards freshness and dynamism.

Perfumes corresponding to a romantic style

A casual look: what perfume should women choose?

Understanding Perfumes: Types, Composition, and Families

Understanding Perfumes: Types, Composition, and Families

What Are the Different Types of Perfumes?

In a perfume bottle, there isn't just the fragrant substance; the perfume is primarily composed of a carrier whose role is to dissolve the fragrant substances well. There is a finisher, usually a fixative, which helps strengthen the fragrance's tenacity. The fixative is often in the form of iris root powder.
There is an abundance of perfumes, fragrances here and there that fill the shelves of perfumeries worldwide. But what's most impressive is that each of these aromas is unique. So, it's natural to ask the following question:

What are the differences between these fragrances based on?

We can differentiate perfumes based on various criteria. Firstly, there is a difference based on the nature of the medium.
There are 3 types of perfume according to this criterion:
1.    Alcoholic fragrances are the most common; the carrier is pure ethanol. It has the advantage of being very volatile, leaving only the scent on the skin.
2.    Oily fragrances are particularly gentle on the skin.
3.    Solid perfumes, commonly called "perfume concrete," where the perfume components are diluted in a "balm." These scents are applied in small quantities to selected areas.

Furthermore, a distinction can be made even in alcoholic perfumes, according to the content of fragrant compounds. In fact, in our perfumes, we see different names like "eau de parfum" or "eau de toilette." That's where the difference in quality lies, often related to the price difference between perfumes.

•    There are sweet waters or colognes that contain less than 8% fragrant substance. Fixation is about 1 hour.
•    Eau de Toilette has a concentration of 6 to 12%, for a fixation of about 3 hours.
•    Eau de parfum is part of this concentration growth with between 10 and 20% fragrant substance, for a period of several hours.
•    Finally, there are the perfumes themselves, which are composed of 15 to 40% fragrant material and ensure fixation for several days.

Perfume Composition: The Notes

When we talk about perfume, we often talk about notes: top, heart, base notes. They correspond to the composition in fragrant substances of the product:
•    Top notes: these are the first notes, those you feel as soon as the product disperses in the air; fresh notes of citrus fruits or herbs;
•    Heart notes: these are the ones that will smell for several hours, it's the character of the perfume; powerful notes of flowers, fruits;
•    Base notes: these are the notes that will last for several days, that will remain; warm and powerful notes of wood, moss.

Fragrance Families

When we go to a perfumery, we are usually asked what kind of perfume we like: more floral, woody, amber, etc.

There are seven main fragrance families:
1.    Citrus aromas: composed of fruit peels: orange, bergamot, citron;
2.    Floral fragrances: composed mainly of flowers: jasmine, rose, violet;
3.    Fern aromas: woody notes, lavender, oakmoss;
4.    Chypre scents: accords of oakmoss, patchouli, bergamot;
5.    Woody aromas: warm notes of sandalwood, patchouli, cedar;
6.    Amber aromas: oriental, sweet, powdery fragrances with vanilla;
7.    Leather perfumes: composed of dry notes of tobacco, smoke, burnt wood.

It is possible to distinguish perfumes based on the nature of the fragrant compound.
•    Most often, it is in the form of essential oils, which are concentrates of volatile molecules from the plant. They are obtained by distillation.
•    There are also many perfumes made from so-called "absolute" plant raw materials. Like essential oils, they are found in alcoholic, oily, and solid perfumes.
•    The third type of fragrant compound relatively present in the perfume market corresponds to CO2 extracts, which allow obtaining an odor closer to the plant than its essential oil. CO2 extracts are 100% natural and very ecological.

It should be noted that, with the industrialization of perfume and the progress of chemistry, synthetic processes emerge that allow the production of artificial fragrant compounds. Synthetic smell is sometimes more faithful than that of natural raw material, as in the case of rose.
