Why Perform Body Exfoliation?
There are various body exfoliations with different grains and textures, yet when it comes to exfoliating or making a purchase, you might be unsure which one to choose.
What Is Body Exfoliation?
Here's a definition and the benefits of body exfoliation in a nutshell:
Exfoliation is used to scrub away, removing dead cells, impurities, and roughness from our epidermis.
Benefits:
• Smoothens the skin
• Accelerates microcirculation
• Stimulates the epidermis to energize skin functions
• Promotes cell renewal
• Prepares the skin to receive various products for nutrition, hydration, firmness, slimming, and drainage.
There Are Various Types of Exfoliants:
• Particle exfoliants containing micro grains from fruits: almonds, apricots, silica grains, pumice, coral powder, polyethylene microspheres, salt, sugar, coffee, crushed evening primrose seeds, oats, strawberries. These exfoliants have a sanding effect, removing dead skin through friction, with larger grains providing a stronger exfoliation.
• Gum exfoliants containing gum arabic or polyvinyl gum that, when applied, give a sticky impression where impurities adhere during removal.
• Enzymatic exfoliations or peels containing keratolytic enzymes, such as AHA, pineapple stem, papain, brewer's yeast, salicylic acid. This form of exfoliation dissolves the keratin of dead cells, which are then removed by washing.
• Manual exfoliation with a horsehair glove or loofah. Nowadays, you can find exfoliants in different forms: gel, cream, oil, shower gel, soap.
Quick Tips for Your Exfoliation:
Depending on your skin and the areas involved, follow these recommendations for effective exfoliation:
• If your skin is sensitive or prone to redness, preferably choose a gentle exfoliation with small grains.
• Do not exfoliate after hair removal; it's better to do it beforehand.
• Avoid exfoliating after sun exposure.
• Remember to moisturize the skin after cleansing to restore the hydrolipidic protection.
• If you're short on time, there are oil-based exfoliants that exfoliate, nourish, and moisturize simultaneously.
• For tough areas like feet or elbows, use a coarse-grain exfoliant for a larger pumice-like effect.
• It's not recommended to exfoliate in case of folliculitis, hypersensitivity, dermatosis, lesions, varicose veins, irritation, burns, vascular fragility.
