How to Combat Oily Skin

Enlarged pores, shine, acne, blackheads. Oily skin is a concentration of problems that don't only involve teenagers. Here are ten tips to deal with oily skin.

It's not always easy to live with oily skin, as it's prone to many imperfections, especially shine and the appearance of small pimples in the central area of the face (T-zone), including the forehead, nose, and chin. Fortunately, with a healthy lifestyle and a specific skincare routine, it's possible to regulate it.

Causes of Oily Skin

Oily skin is characterized by excessive sebum secretion caused by pollution, stress, and/or hormonal factors that give rise to many imperfections: shine, pimples, dull skin.

Tips for Dealing with Oily Skin:

  1. Cleanse Your Skin Every Day
  2. The golden rule against oily skin is to regulate sebum production, responsible for the appearance of blackheads. It's crucial to cleanse your face thoroughly in the morning and evening. Start by removing makeup to unclog pores and let the skin breathe. Then, wash your face with a preferably gel cleanser. Finally, apply a purifying lotion. Once a week, use a mask, preferably with clay or charcoal.

  3. Moisturize Your Face
  4. Oily skin also gets thirsty. Don't forget to moisturize it daily, morning and evening. Opt for a non-greasy cream with a mattifying effect, that will allow you to conceal those unaesthetic shines.

  5. Choose the Right Exfoliator
  6. Exfoliation should be done once a week and is a precious ally for beautiful skin. Be careful to choose the right product for your skin type. Faces and necks dotted with pimples are too sensitive for shock therapy. To gently cleanse the skin, opt for a mild exfoliating lotion.

  7. Don't Touch a Pimple
  8. When faced with a pimple, resisting the temptation to pop it is difficult! However, doing so risks making it worse by inflaming it and leaving a scar. Skin correctors are perfect for hiding small imperfections!

  9. Maintain a Balanced Diet
  10. We will never tire of saying it: fried and fatty foods, sodas, and alcohol are the worst enemies of dream skin! Avoid excessive consumption. The truth is there is no miracle diet against oily skin, but a balanced diet can help. Remember to drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day. Your skin will thank you.

  11. Be Cautious in the Sun
  12. The sun is a blessing against pimples, but only in the short term! When you go on vacation, you may get peachy skin right away, but then acne explodes. It's important to protect yourself from the sun and use daily cosmetic products like moisturizers and anti-aging creams that contain SPF 30 or 50. At the beach and by the sea, protect yourself with a high-protection cream.

  13. Consult a Dermatologist
  14. Stress, poor eating habits, and a lack of skincare routine can cause serious problems. Moreover, acne outbreaks can arise from a more complex situation, such as hormonal imbalance. In the case of severe acne, consult a dermatologist. You may need a medical treatment adapted to your skin problems and more.
